We count on you!
Dear citizens of Lichtenberg! It has already become a tradition that Lichtenberg's citizens participate in planning our budget. In the year 2010 it will be the fourth time that we plan the budget of Lichtenberg together with you. The results of this success are already visible:
• The school for continuing education on Paul-Junius-Straße has got an elevator and is handicapped accessible. • 21 trees have been planted in several streets of Lichtenberg in spring 2008. • The coordinator for participation of children and adolescents has been appointed on January 1st 2008. • Books and DVDs in Vietnamese can now be borrowed from the Anna-Seghers-Library in Lindencenter. Those are only some of the highlights of ideas suggested by citizens of Lichtenberg, which have been put into effect over the last few years. We have had many positive experiences. Other boroughs in Berlin and counties all over Germany and even in other countries have showed interest in Lichtenberg, as a leading example of successful Participatory Budgeting. We are very glad and feel encouraged to improve continuously on our success. What’s new this year? There will be a central assembly for all citizens connecting the results of last year with this year's budgeting process. We will evaluate last year's results and present all information about this year's process. On June 21st 2008, the date of the assembly, we will start the online dialogue. The discussion will then continue in open assemblies in each of the 13 districts of Lichtenberg between middle of September and middle of October. In addition to all topics among the “controllable” tasks, you can suggest and discuss projects for the development of each district. Moreover, you will be able to participate in planning construction investments for the years 2012-2013. The size of the Participatory Budget will not be larger, but we want to plan our financial resources with priorities according to your suggestions. Whenever suggestions involve higher expenses, plans to compensate the expenses will have to be suggested at the same time. I am looking forward to an active discussion in all districts and on the internet. As every year, I am expecting many interesting suggestions.I am looking forward to an active discussion in all districts and on the internet. Yours sincerely, Christina Emmrich Mayor of Lichtenberg
